Airport Exposure, Outside Food Delivery: How The IPL Bio-Bubble Was Breached | Cricket News

A week back the Indian Premier League (IPL) chief executive told the players to play for “humanity” and assured them that they were “totally safe” within the confines of the tournament’s biosecure bubble. A week on, the bubble has burst, the tournament postponed indefinitely with the franchises and the BCCI standing to lose over Rs 2000 crore. A spate of positive cases among players and staff led to IPL 2021 being postponed on Tuesday. So, what caused the bio-bubble breach?

The bio-bubble in UAE for IPL 2020 was managed by Restrata, a professional company well versed in tracking devices and bio-secure solutions. This time, the IPL decided to go local, leaving matters in the hands of hospital vendors and testing labs, which were expected to replicate the process.

Air travel was the biggest worry as IPL 2021 was scheduled to be held across six cities. NDTV has learned two players and one team coach contracted COVID-19 while travelling through the airport terminus. Teams had demanded tarmac access from state governments, which was denied, thus risking the players. In UAE, there was no air travel.

The tracking device worn by players were at times faulty. They were purchased from a Chennai-based company that failed to live up to the standards, hence forcing BCCI to only make assumptions on where and how players could have contracted the dreaded virus.

There was a big question over testing and quarantine protocols of people outside the bubble who were essential for running the tournament. These people include ground staff, hotel staff, ground catering, net bowlers, DJs and drivers. Multiple cities meant a larger cluster of people who kept changing.

The processes of management were more robust in the UAE

Until the last week food delivery from outside was allowed.

Promoted

BCCI left it to each franchise to create its own bubble for players, members, and staff, instead of a central agency like IMG managing the tournament.

Despite the Covid cases rising in India, the BCCI top brass was determined to have the tournament in the country. The IPL governing council and the franchises had proposed a move to the UAE, like last year.

“How do you raise a black son?”- Din Thomas asks Michael Chandler a fascinating question

In the latest episode of Din Thomas’ YouTube series ‘Din Dairies,’ the former fighter went over to Florida to meet up with UFC lightweight, Michael Chandler. Chandler is currently preparing for a lightweight title shot against Charles Olivera at UFC 262.

In the video, Thomas and Chandler initially train together at Sanford MMA before going to Chandler’s house to watch some tape on his upcoming opponent. However, the conversation quickly shifts to how Chandler has to spend time away from his family to fight.

“How do you raise a black son?”

This leads to Thomas asking how Michael Chandler responds when people ask him how he raises a black son as a white man. Chandler’s response was considered and thought out. He stated the following:

“Well, I think it adds an extra wrinkle to it, obviously. Because of, you know, kind of different experiences in life. I can’t say I know what it’s like to be a black man in America. But I would say that number one, it goes back to whether he’s black, white or any race in between, how do I raise a good man?”

“A loving man, a joyful man. A man who believes in himself to do ridiculously amazing things with the gifts that God has given him. And then all of the other stuff will, I think, take care of itself. God will put people in his life who may be able to educate him more on the African American community or African American struggles,” explained Michael Chandler.

Michael Chandler went on to say that whilst he is attempting to do his own research on the matter, he does not want to overcompensate for it.

“I have been trying to do more and more research. I want to be well-read or well versed on it but I also don’t want to overcompensate too much for it as if it is the most important thing. Because I don’t think race is the most important thing. And I don’t know if that’s the right answer or the wrong answer. I’m still trying to figure it out,” said Michael Chandler.

As Michael Chandler states in the video, he must be away from his son and wife whilst he travels to Texas to fight at UFC 262. Despite being only one fight into his UFC career, Chandler is already set to fight for the vacant lightweight title.

“He’s the king of the light-heavyweight division” – Jiri Prochazka talks about a potential fight with Jon Jones

Jiri Prochazka has opened up on a potential fight between him and former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Prochazka is 2-0 in the UFC so far, with his most recent fight seeing him score a second-round KO win over Dominick Reyes at UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Prochazka.

In a recent interview with RT Sport MMA, Jiri Prochazka opened up on multiple topics, including Dominick Reyes and Jon Jones. On being asked whether he feels sorry that Jon Jones isn’t in the light heavyweight division right now, Jiri Prochazka stated:

“That’s a good question because he’s the king of the light-heavyweight division, yeah. And I think he will be the greatest opponent in the light-heavyweight division for me. But he’s now in heavyweight. So, what now? Yeah, I’m a little bit sorry. I’m sorry for that. But I think when he will be in light-heavyweight, that will be more dangerous for everybody.”

The interviewer then noted what Jiri Prochazka was insinuating; the fact that Jon Jones fighting at light-heavyweight would be better for the division. Prochazka replied to this assertion by saying:

“Yeah, but I think he hasn’t the motivation anymore for light-heavyweight. And he needs some change in the fighting lifestyle or whatever.”

The Czech MMA star, known by fans as ‘Denisa’, also addressed the UFC 247 fight between Jones and Reyes, which saw the champion win via unanimous decision and successfully defend his UFC light-heavyweight title.

“If you want to take a title and take a title, you need to beat this holder of title definitively, like KO or TKO. And that Dominick didn’t do. So, I think that fight (Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes), it was close, but it was right to Jones to win that fight,” said Prochazka.

“His performance (Reyes) in this fight was much better than Jones. But to beat the champion, you need to knock him down – Because Jon Jones wins all the fights, lasts all his fights,” added Prochazka.” (*H/T Sportskeeda for the transcription)

Jiri Prochazka feels that if Dominick Reyes had beaten Jon Jones, perhaps via KO or TKO, he would have deserved to be awarded the UFC light-heavyweight title.

Prochazka also alluded to Jones’ recent performances. He opined that Jones simply used minimal activity, great defense, and controlled the movement in the fight to successfully defend his title.

The general consensus in the MMA community is that Jiri Prochazka or Aleksandar Rakic could fight the winner of the UFC 266 title fight between reigning UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and challenger Glover Teixeira.

Jiri Prochazka has repeatedly asserted that his goal is to continually evolve as a martial artist. Many in the MMA world believe that Prochazka is likely to capture the coveted UFC light-heavyweight title sooner rather than later.

On the other hand, Jon Jones vacated the UFC light-heavyweight title in August of 2020 and is set to make his debut in the UFC heavyweight division this year.

Jones is expected to fight current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou for the title. ‘Bones’ has claimed that he intends to win the heavyweight title and cement his legacy as the MMA GOAT.

Sassuolo vs Juventus prediction, preview, team news and more | Serie A 2020-21

Juventus will aim to quickly move on from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to AC Milan when they travel to the Citta del Tricolore Stadium to take on Sassuolo.

The hosts, meanwhile, head into this tie off the back of a 2-1 win over Genoa and will look to build on that impressive performance.

Sassuolo continued their sensational form in Serie A as Giacomo Raspadori and Domenico Berardi scored in either half to beat Genoa 2-1 last time out.

The Neroverdi have now extended their unbeaten run to six games, dating back to a 2-1 loss to league champions Inter Milan back in April.

Since then, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have picked up five wins and one draw. This resurgence has seen them climb to eighth place, one point behind the Europa League playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Juventus‘ chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League took a hefty blow as they suffered a 3-0 loss to AC Milan last time out.

In an utterly lethargic performance, Andrea Pirlo’s men failed to threaten the Rossoneri, who picked up their 22nd win of the season.

Juventus have now dropped to fifth place in the league table, two points behind Napoli in fourth place. They now risk playing in the Europa League next season and will need to win their final three games and hope for a slip-up from their rivals to avoid this.

Sassuolo vs Juventus Head-To-Head

Juventus have been utterly dominant in this fixture, having won 12 of their last 16 meetings with Sassuolo. The hosts have managed just one win, while it has ended all square on one occasion.

Pirlo’s men are currently on a 10-game unbeaten run against Sassuolo with their last encounter ending in a 3-1 win back in January.
